Support to the Development of the Criminal Policy, Prosecution and Investigation in Georgia

Project Description
The project enhances the professional development of Georgian prosecutors and crime investigators and to support in execution of the Criminal Justice Reform Strategy. It also supports the Ministry to advance reforms to the Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs in line with international standards and commitments.

The project has the following key components:
1. Assisting the Ministry of Justice in the execution of the Criminal Justice Reform Strategy.
2. Enhancing professional development of Georgian prosecutors and crime investigators
3. Supporting Prosecution Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs in improving and introducing the public relation strategies.
4. Supporting prosecution service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to introduce the efficient, transparent and fair human resource management system, and is backing the aforesaid institutions with regards to the crime statistics
5. Supporting prosecution service and police to introduce improved system that ensures the better protection of human rights.
Specific Objective
• To assists the Ministry of Justice in the execution of the Criminal Justice Reform Strategy.
• To enhance the professional development of Georgian prosecutors and crime investigators.
• To support the Prosecution Service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs in improving and introducing the public relation strategies.
• To support the prosecution service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs to introduce the efficient, transparent and fair human resource management system, and is backing the aforesaid institutions with regards to the crime statistics.
• To support the prosecution service and police to introduce improved system that ensures the better protection of human rights.
Expected Results
• Criminal Justice Reform Strategy that is focused on enhanced protection of human rights is successfully implemented. Criminal justice system is accountable and efficient with independent and fair judiciary.
• Reforms made to the Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs are in line with international standards and commitments.
• Police crime investigators and prosecutors are professionally developed with the abilities to perform their duties independently and professionally in accordance with human rights standards.
• Pubic relations strategies of prosecution service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs are improved. Public awareness about the police and prosecutors’ work and their achievements in terms of preventing and resolving crimes is increased.
• Prosecution services and the Ministry of Internal Affairs have efficient, transparent and fair human resource management and appraisal systems.
• Management capacity of the prosecution service and the Ministry of Internal
• Affairs is strengthened with regards to use of reliable and consistent methods for gathering, analyzing and sharing information on crime statistics and policies for managing their organizations.
• Complaints of human rights abuses are effectively processed and reduced ensuring that prosecutors and police investigators are respecting international and European Human Rights standards. Level of awareness in the prosecution service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs concerning the application of international human rights standards is increased.
