Better Commercial Law and Legal Practice in Georgia
Project Description
Revised EU-Georgia Association Agenda for the period of 2017-2020 establishes a set of jointly agreed priorities for the implementation of the Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA). Among other areas, these priorities include improving the business and regulatory environment. This consists of improving and strengthening the operational environment of businesses, establishing capital market enabling measures and efficient dispute resolution mechanisms for commercial disputes and contract enforcement.
While number of steps have been taken (draft Company Law, Insolvency Law and Enforcement Code in accordance with European standards has been prepared), reforms still need to be enforced and relevant capacities and practical arrangements provided for the successful implementation of the new regulatory frameworks.
The project works with the Ministry of Justice of Georgia and is primarily focused on enhancement of the commercial law and its legal practice in Georgia. The project conducts its activities in four main directions:
- Fostering efficiency and quality of justice in commercial litigation
- Supporting the reform of company law and practice
- Supporting improvement of insolvency proceedings
- Supporting efficient enforcement of judicial decisions.
