Georgia East-West Highway - Samtredia-Grigoleti-Kobuleti Section

Project Description
Over the past years Georgia has conducted significant works to improve highways as transport corridors throughout the country. The process has been heavily supported by donors and most frequently, by the EU. Such increased connectivity supports people and economics, increases competitiveness and movement.

The project ensures the upgrade and improvement of the most Western part of the East-West highway - a segment from Samtredia town of Imereti region to Kobuleti town of Ajara region. Total length of this segment of the highway is 68 kilometers. The highway is on the Pan-European corridor linking the EU with Central Asia through Georgia. Its rehabilitation will improve the conditions of the main road corridor available for transportation of goods between Asia and Europe. It also supports movement of people within the country.

While the total contribution of the EU for construction of the East-West Highway is 220,000,000 EUR, the grant amount of the EU is 20,000,000 EUR, while 200,000,000 EUR is a loan from EIB.
