Team Europe reaffirms long-term commitment to support Georgia’s regions with a visit to Bolnisi

16/04/2026

Demonstrating a united and forward-looking partnership, the European Union Ambassador to Georgia, Pawel Herczyński, together with Ambassadors and diplomats from several EU Member States, visited Bolnisi as part of a joint Team Europe mission reaffirming sustained support for Georgia’s regional development, economic prosperity, and democratic vitality.

Bringing together the Ambassadors and diplomats from Austria, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Romania, and Sweden, the visit underscored a shared European commitment—reflecting a long-term investment in people, opportunities, and inclusive growth across Georgia’s regions. At its core, the mission highlighted how EU–Georgia partnership translates into tangible impact on the ground: empowering young people, supporting local entrepreneurship, strengthening communities, and fostering sustainable development in regions such as Kvemo Kartli.

“Being here, in Bolnisi, alongside my colleagues from several EU Member States is a powerful testament to our collective dedication to Georgia’s regions. From the vibrant exchange of ideas with the youth to the ambitious spirit of entrepreneurs, we see a real impact of EU assistance. For 30 years, Team Europe has been standing with Georgia in good times and in bad times—and we will continue to do so in the future,” EU Ambassador Pawel Herczyński said.

The visit has reflected a holistic approach to partnership connecting heritage, people, and future opportunities. It began at the historic Bolnisi Sioni Cathedral, symbolising Georgia’s deep-rooted ties to the European cultural and civilizational space. Engagement with the civil society and media representatives further emphasized the importance of an open dialogue, independent voices, and an active civic space as key pillars of democratic development.

A central focus of the mission was youth empowerment and skills development. At the Adult Education Center (ALE Center), Ambassadors held an open exchange with young people on education, employability, and the opportunities created through the EU support—highlighting the role of vocational training and lifelong learning in shaping resilient communities and future leaders.

Diplomats held a meeting with local entrepreneurs, showcasing how the EU-backed initiatives are strengthening small businesses, creating jobs, and driving sustainable economic growth at the local level. These stories reflect a broader reality: that European partnership is not abstract, but visible in everyday lives across Georgia.
