Let’s come together to celebrate what unites us #Ertad
On the eve of Europe Day celebrations, the Delegation of the European Union to Georgia, led by Ambassador Pawel Herczynski, carried out a series of visits and community engagements across Batumi, highlighting the EU’s continued support to democratic values, inclusive development, civil society, and independent media in Georgia.

Ambassador Herczynski began the day with a visit to the Batumelebi media outlet, where he met with editors and journalists, reaffirming the EU’s strong support for independent media and its essential role in a democratic society. Later, he delivered opening remarks at the Local Civil Society Forum and Human Rights Exchange, co-organized by UNDP and OHCHR with EU support. The event convened grassroots and national civil society organizations to discuss the challenges and opportunities for civic engagement, rights’ protection, and resilience in today’s context. The forum underscored the importance of safeguarding civic space and amplifying local voices across Georgia.
Throughout the day, Head of the Political and Press Section Zane Rungule and Head of Cooperation Nicholas Cendrowicz, visited a range of EU-supported partners and projects in Batumi and wider Ajara.
The programme in Ajara featured a series of engagements showcasing the breadth of EU and Team Europe-supported initiatives in the region. It included activities focused on media literacy and countering disinformation, advancing disability rights and social inclusion, fostering civil society cooperation, supporting community-based climate action, and promoting religious and cultural diversity. These interactions highlighted ongoing efforts to empower local communities, strengthen resilience, and encourage inclusive dialogue across the region.
“These visits are a strong reminder that the EU’s partnership with Georgia is about people – empowering communities, protecting rights, and supporting a democratic future. We will put our efforts in reinforcing what has been achieved,” said Ambassador Herczynski.
