EU-supported ‘Georgia’s Responsible Business Awards Meliora 2022’ has taken a start!

Meliora – the most recognisable effort to promote and strengthen the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)commitment among businesses, is now open to receive applications. With the support of the European Union (EU) and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS), Center for Strategic Research and Development of Georgia (CSRDG) annually introduces the CSR projects undertaken by companies operating in Georgia to the society and awards the bests among them. 

Over 90 companies with more than 200 CSR projects participated in ‘Georgia’s Responsible Business Awards Meliora’. The competition aims to promote and strengthen the CSR commitment among businesses; attract attention to excellent examples of CSR projects; encourage and motivate companies to adopt the best practices and become the role models for others.

Companies are welcome to submit their CSR projects in the following categories: 

  • Green Initiative
  • Responsible Employer
  • Responsibility in the Marketplace
  • Supporting Communities
  • Cross-sector Partnership
  • CSR Manager of the Year
  • Transparency and Accountability on CSR and Sustainability Issues – Implemented with the Partnership of Annual Report and Transparency Award (BARTA) 

The Grand prix will be awarded to:

  • Responsible Large Company of the Year
  • Responsible Small/Medium Size Company of the Year

Winner projects will be selected by an independent jury consisting of the leading Georgian and international experts, based on proper planning, consistency, efficiency, and sustainability of results. Applications will be received by 10th February, 2023. Awarding ceremony will take place in summer 2023.

Lela Khoperia, CSR program coordinator at CSRDG, stated: “This competition, along with identifying and recognising the best projects, aims to improve CSR programs and approaches within companies. In order to meet this objective, the competition includes development-oriented components – after the awarding event, all participating companies will receive feedback and recommendations on submitted projects by the jury. The experience of Meliora gave many companies a new perspective on their CSR activities and helped them move forward.”

Civil Society STAR Initiative: Meliora 2022 is held in frames of the European Union (EU) and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) funded project ‘Civil Society STAR Initiative: CSOs as Sustainable, Transparent, Accountable and Resilient Development Actors in Georgia’. The project is implemented by the Consortium led by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) and composed of the following CSOs: Center for Strategic Research and Development of Georgia (CSRDG), Civil Society Institute (CSI), Center for Training and Consultancy (CTC), Education Development and Employment Center (EDEC), and Institute for European Politics (IEP).

About implementing organisation: The Center for Strategic Research and Development of Georgia, established in 1995, has successful multi-year experience in the field of civil sector development in Tbilisi as well as in the regions of Georgia. CSRDG has been focused on results that can improve the lives of individuals and societies in general. 

It was the first Georgian organisation that prepared and published: the sustainability report in accordance with GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) sustainability reporting guidelines; the first Georgian-language textbook on CSR for higher educational institutions; and comprehensive analytical research on “Corporate Social Responsibility and Public Sector’s Role” (analysis and recommendations for the Government of Georgia).
