Combatting Torture and Ill-treatment in Georgia Armenia and Ukraine

Project Description
EU, with respect to human rights at its core, supports a number of projects in Georgia, as well as partner countries, that focus on different aspects of human rights and dignities. This project is a partnership of civil society organizations of the three countries to prevent torture (mental or physical) and inhuman or degrading treatment of citizens. Through diverse activities and sub-grants, the project works to:
- Establish and strengthen prevention mechanisms of redress for the victims of torture;
- Improves capacities of relevant professionals and civil society organizations in documenting torture
- Provides comprehensive tailor-made rehabilitation services to the victims of torture and their family members.
Specific Objective
Contribution to the prevention of torture, improvement of mechanisms of redress for the victims of torture and successful rehabilitation of the victims of torture in three countries.
Expected Results
- Victims of torture and their family members have better access to comprehensive rehabilitation services;
- Civil society organisations and national human rights institutions have greater capacities in monitoring incidences of torture and inhumane treatment in closed institutions;
- State officials are more efficient in early detection of torture;
- Physicians and lawyers have the capacities to properly document incidences of torture via Istanbul Protocol;
- Legislation and policies with regard to torture and ill-treatment are improved;
- Public awareness on issues related to torture is increased.
