Maritime safety, security and marine environmental protection in the Black and Caspian Sea Regions

Project Description
The "Maritime safety, security and marine environmental protection in the Black and Caspian Sea Regions" project aims to improve maritime safety and security, and to prevent marine pollution in the region. It does so by supporting the efforts of coastal states in implementing relevant international legislation, approximating their regulatory frameworks with EU legislation and improving the performance of their maritime activities.
Specific Objective
The specific objective of the Project is to improve maritime safety and security, and to prevent marine pollution in the region.

The Project conducts a multitude of activities designed to meet its objectives, namely workshops, seminars and studies; operational support (on-site actions, provision of services including drafting of legislation, pilot projects); high-level seminars at national level with parliamentary committees, to facilitate the adoption/ratification of updated legal framework; targeted bilateral assistance.
The activities are conducted under seven components: flag state implementation; port state control; vessel traffic monitoring and implementation systems; protection of the marine environment; human element; security of ships and port facilities; bilateral activities.
