Green and Circular Economy: Waste Reduction and Recycling for Citizens’ Health
Project Description
The European Union and two UN agencies, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), together with the Environment Agency Austria (UBA), are supporting Georgia in advancing a green, circular, and inclusive economy.
The joint initiative focuses on strengthening Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) systems to reduce waste, protect public health, and improve resource efficiency across the country.

Specific Objective
Specific objective: The project aims to improve the implementation of EPR schemes in Georgia, promote sustainable waste management practices, and foster inclusive participation, particularly of women, youth, and vulnerable groups.

• Strengthened capacities of at least four existing PROs and established new ones.
• Development of inclusive waste management plans and technical manuals.
• Facilitate access to financing for recycling activities and green entrepreneurship.

• Public awareness campaigns and school-based education on waste reduction.
• Improved infrastructure for waste collection, sorting, and recycling at the local level.
