Promoting inclusive and participatory local development in Akhmeta Municipality

Project Description

The project is part of European Neighborhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD) and contributes to the reduction of poverty in the Kakheti region. I The project utilizes the LEADER methodology that supports inclusive and participatory approaches to local development. Through this methodology, voices of community members within local development planning are promoted and their involvement in decision-making processes is enhanced to impact quality of life and economic well-being of rural communities.

As a principal mechanism of this approach, Local Action Group (LAG) was established in Akhmeta, which is a public-private partnership of local community members that represent a broad cross section of different groups and sectors within the municipality. The LAG has recently produced a Local Development Strategy for Akhmeta Municipality and is planning to fund local projects and initiatives that support rural development.

Specific Objective

To support an inclusive and community-led approach to rural development to improve the quality of life and economic conditions in Akhmeta Municipality.

Expected Results

- Local Action Group in Akhmeta established through a supportive and inclusive process;
- Skills and knowledge of LAG strengthened, and members capacitated to elaborate a Local Development Strategy;
- A minimum of 35 sustainable rural development sub-projects supported through technical support and sub-grant financing;
- Networking, outreach and sustainability of LAG facilitated.
