Implementing public oriented local-governance in Poti and Abasha Municipalities

Project Description
The EU is actively promoting multi-stakeholder involvement in decision making processes, to increase ownership, transparency and assure multi layered perspectives. In this project, Poti and Abasha Municipalities have joined efforts with two civil society organizations to increase civic engagement into the decision-making process. The project focuses on increased transparency and accountability of the work of local self-governments. The project:
- Builds capacity of Poti and Abasha Municipalities through the introduction of public-needs oriented, inclusive, and participatory governance principles;
- Increases quality of services provided by local governments;
- Enhances opportunities for electronic engagement of citizens;
- Ensures transparency and accountability, citizen participation, multi-sector partnership and cooperation with result-oriented and consensus-based decision-making;
- Allocates 100,000 EUR worth of grants for local development projects.
Specific Objective
To establish effective and collaborative relationships between local self-government and local non-governmental actors.
Expected Results
- Systems and strategies supporting citizen participation in local, democratic decision-making processes are introduced to Poti and Abasha Municipalities are in place
- Influence and competencies of the CSOs in Poti and Abasha Municipalities developed and strengthened
- Cooperation of CSOs with local governments increased and joint initiatives implemented
- Experiences and best practices shared with other municipalities throughout Georgia
- Local sub-projects funded and implemented.
