Enhancing Implementation of Judiciary Reforms in Georgia

Project Description
The project is part of the EU4Justice programme, and it contributes to the ambitious justice reform agenda of Georgia and support to implementation of the latest wave of such reforms in line with the judiciary strategy as well as different EU-Georgia agreements and policy instruments.

The project provides long-term, relevant and robust technical assistance to the High Council of Justice (HCoJ), Office of the Independent Inspector (Inspectorate) and other relevant institutions in their efforts to advance the reforms needed for the judiciary to become more independent, efficient, impartial, professional, and free from political or any other undue interference.

More specifically, the project:
- Supports revision of internal regulations and processes of HCoJ in regards to appointments and disciplinary proceedings
- Supports with application of revised grounds of disciplinary violations before the Independent Disciplinary Inspector,
- Provides help with approximation of judicial decisions in respect of the transposed EU acquis through cooperation with the European Court of Justice,
- Helps introducing principles of victim-centred restorative justice to the courts by reflecting on the latest trends in the EU's criminal justice policies.
Specific Objective
To support the implementation of the latest legislative reforms in the judiciary area, enhance cooperation with the European Court of Justice and advance principles of restorative justice in Georgia.
Expected Results
- Revised internal regulations and processes of the HCoJ;
- Revised groups of disciplinary violations are in place
- Remaining challenges of the third wave of justice reforms addressed
- Cooperation with the European Court of Justice enhanced
- Restorative principles of justice applied.
