Georgia Climate Action Project (GEO-CAP): Promoting Civil Society Engagement in Climate Change Policy Design and Implementation

Project Description
The project is part of the European Union's "Promoting Civil Society Development in Georgia" program. Using a human rights-based approach, the project facilitates the strengthening and activation of national and local civil society organizations by establishing regional Climate Action Groups and the National Climate Platform and building trust and cooperation between state and community organizations.

The project operates in the Guria, Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi-Kvemo Svaneti and Kakheti regions and assists local civil society organizations in combating climate change and promoting effective involvement in participatory policy-making. Regional Climate Action Groups and the National Climate Platform promote the constructive involvement of civil society in the development and implementation of climate change policies. The project works with local and national civil society organizations, educational institutions, as well as central and local governments, and various community and youth groups.
Specific Objective
The specific objective of the action is to strengthen the role of CSOs in tackling climate change (CC) via establishing multi-stakeholder regional action groups and a national platform on climate change, environment and health and building trust and collaboration between state and non-state actors for inclusive policy development and increased climate change resilience and water security (as defined by UN-Water). The project will empower local CSOs in their actions for inclusive governance and equitable development.
Expected Results
1. Enhanced climate change (CC) participation mechanisms;
2. Stimulated evidence-based and participative climate-responsive decision-making;
3. Strengthened CC mitigation and adaptation measures and protection of human health and environment via financial (sub-grants) and capacity building support offered to the third parties for the implementation of innovative projects (with a focus on new technologies, digital solutions and circular economy) to mitigate and /or adapt to CC impacts;
4. Increased public awareness about climate change and the role of civil society participation in tackling its negative effects.
