Local Action Group Tskaltubo

Project Description
The project is part of European Neighborhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD) and contributes to the reduction of poverty in Imereti region. The project utilises the LEADER methodology that supports inclusive and participatory approaches to local development. Through this methodology, voices of community members within local development planning is promoted and their involvement in decision-making processes is enhanced to impact quality of life and economic well-being of rural communities.

As a principal mechanism of this approach, Local Action Group (LAG) was established in Tskaltubo, which is a public-private partnership of local community members that represent a broad cross section of different groups and sectors within the municipality. The LAG has recently produced Local Development Strategy for Tskaltubo Municipality and is planning to fund local projects and initiatives that support rural development
Specific Objective
To improve economic opportunities, social integration, and access to basic social services for the population of Tskaltubo Municipality through introducing the LEADER approach.
Expected Results
- Local Action Group (LAG) is established and functional for improving the quality of life in Tskaltubo Municipality through continuous and integrated local development initiatives in the targeted area.
- Area-based local development strategy (LDS), produced by LAG reflects potential of the local economy and needs of disadvantaged groups.
- Increased economic opportunities and access to basic social services are ensured through capacity building and grants schemes with special focus on the integration of disadvantaged groups.
